Constipation Treatment – Successful Treatment of Constipation
Constipation is only temporary and does not represent any health risks in the majority of cases but if not treated constipation can cause headache, bad breath, tiredness and skin problems. In severer cases can also occur certain complications including hemorrhoids, fecal impaction and rectal prolapse.
Like other diseases and disorders, successful constipation treatment requires treatment of its causes. Health care provider will probably recommend you to change your lifestyle – to eat a lot of foods high in fibers, drink a lot of fluids (at least 6 to 8 glasses a day) and exercise because constipation is most often caused by unhealthy diet low in fibers, inadequate fluid intake and sedentary lifestyle. Processed foods might be very convenient as well as tasty but they are stripped of important nutrients including fibers and are very difficult to digest. They accumulate in the colon and absorb a lot of water which is often not drank in adequate amounts. Abdominal muscle weaken due to sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity and thus constipation is only a matter of time.
Both acute and chronic constipation is usually successfully treated with change of lifestyle and diet. When regular exercise, diet high in fibers and increased intake of fluids are not effective constipation is treated with laxatives. However, before starting using a laxative you should make sure that constipation is not caused by medications if taking any.
